MALPRACTICE Begins Work On New Material
MALPRACTICE, the Finnish progressive metal band featuring members of TO/DIE/FOR, MANITOU, OMNIUM GATHERUM and REVERSION, has issued the following update:
"After a short break, we are back in business! We're happy to inform you that at the very moment MALPRACTICE is writing new material. Jope [Joonas Koto, guitar] and Toni [Paananen, drums] got together on May 21 to check out some riffs and to jam, just to see how much material do we have to start with. And things started to happen really fast. After 1 ½ hours at the rehearsal place, we had our very first new MALPRACTICE song done! During that two-day session, we recorded about 10 minutes of material and so far everything rocks like hell! So it looks really good… The new stuff is pretty odd, but if you like the 'Triangular' stuff, you will definitely love the new stuff as well! We are on fire!
"At some point we are gonna release (yes, yet another…) diary about writing, arranging, rehearsing and finally (sometime in the future) recording the new stuff, so you can follow how we progress in making of the next MALPRACTICE album. But please be patient; it still might take a little while before it's in stores…"
MALPRACTICE's third album, "Triangular", was released in March 2008 via Spinefarm Records. The CD was recorded at Astia studio with producer Anssi Kippo and Southeast Sounds in Karhula with Teemu Aalto. It was mixed by Anssi Kippo.
While still progressive and melodic, "Triangular" also saw the return of some of the thrashier elements in MALPRACTICE and combined with the virtuoso skills of the new vocalist Aleksi Parviainen, "Triangular" takes MALPRACTICE to a whole new level of excellence, making the listener think about QUEENSRŸCHE meeting MEGADETH meeting DREAM THEATER. Much like their heroes, MALPRACTICE certainly know their way around different moods and atmospheres, ranging from "Waves"' fragile tranquility to "Triangular"'s instrumental extravaganza and "Symmetry"'s almost poppy choruses. |

"GOREFEST discover Internet porn, quit. OK, that's not entirely true, we knew about the porn all along. But, after two albums, both of which we're hugely proud of, and about a hundred shows, all of them memorable in their own way, the question that remained for us was: what's next? The answer can be short: nothing. 'La Muerte' and 'Rise To Ruin' are two albums with which we've expanded, and indeed completed our body of work to our full satisfaction. Barring one or two exceptions, all the shows we've done since we decided to reform sometime in 2004 have been tremendously enjoyable. So why quit? Pretty simple, really: Every ride comes to an end. This is ours."
Fan-filmed video footage of GOREFEST performing at the Way Of Darkness III Festival, which was held October 2-4, 2008 in Coburg, Germany, can be viewed below (clip uploaded by YouTube user "brophdefection").
GOREFEST's latest album, "Rise to Ruin", entered the Dutch chart at position No. 61 back in August 2007. Released in the U.S. on September 25, 2007 via Candlelight, the CD was mixed by Danish producer Tue Madsen at his Antfarm studios in Århus, Denmark.
GOREFEST issued several CDs through the Nuclear Blast label in the early 1990s before switching to SPV for their 1998 album, "Chapter 13". |

TENET: 'Sovereign' Artwork Unveiled; First Track Posted Online
TENET, originally the brainchild of guitarist Jed Simon (STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, ZIMMER'S HOLE), has throughout the years evolved into a monstrous extreme metal force featuring such illustrious musicians as Steve "Zetro" Souza (EXODUS) on vocals, Glen Alvelais (FORBIDDEN, TESTAMENT) on lead guitar, Byron Stroud (STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, FEAR FACTORY) on bass and Gene Hoglan (DEATH, DARK ANGEL, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD) on drums.
TENET's debut album, "Sovereign", will be released via Century Media Records on July 20 in Europe and August 11 in North America. The CD's opening track, "Being And Nothingness", has just been made available on the band's MySpace page.

EVILE Reveals New Album Title, Track Listing
British thrashers EVILE will release their new album, "Infected Nations", on September 22 (one day earlier internationally) via Earache Records.
Commented EVILE frontman Matt Drake: "When we did [2007's] 'Enter the Grave' two years ago, it was made up of songs we had been playing for a few years and some written in the excitement of actually getting to record an album. We were happy to just be making noise, but since then, we've learnt a few things and we're more interested in making music.
"Infected Nations" was produced by Russ Russell (NAPALM DEATH), with the cover art created by Michael Whelan, famous for his sci-fi artworks along with classic album covers from such bands as SEPULTURA and OBITUARY.
Commented EVILE lead guitarist Ol Drake: "When we were thinking about artists we could approach for the album's art, we went through many ideas and avenues. One day I was listening to 'Beneath the Remains' by SEPULTURA, and whilst looking at the artwork, I thought how much that simple yet detailed art really compliments the music. I thought, 'How good would it be to get Michael Whelan to do an original piece?' I think Matt said something like, 'Haha yeah, like that'll happen,' so as you do, I contacted his manager and got in touch with him. It turned out he was really interested in the concept of the art and jumped right on board. I think an album's art is just as important as the music on the disc, so I couldn't be happier with it. Can't wait to see it on vinyl (with a backpatch maybe?).

Seattle, Washington-based metallers METAL CHURCH have issued the following:
"To all of our fans and friends...
We regretfully announce that Metal Church is calling it quits.
The performance at Rocklahoma will be our last show. We have had to cancel the shows scheduled for August and that, among other things, has led us to have to make this decision.
There has been far too much frustration and disappointment in trying to keep moving forward. The collapse of our record company, SPV, has made it next to impossible for us to continue in any kind of professional manner due to lack of tour support. This decision was not made lightly.
We do have unfinished business in the studio, and with any luck we will have something that will be of interest to Metal Church fans in the near future.
We would like to thank all the fans that have stuck with Metal Church through all these years, the lineup changes and the ups and downs.
We can't tell you how much your support has meant to us, we appreciate each and every one of you.

AXXIS: New Album Details Revealed
German metallers AXXIS — who will soon celebrate their 20th anniversary — will release their new studio album, "Utopia", on August 28 via AFM Records. The CD will be available as a standard jewel case version with 11 new songs and in a limited digipack format, which will include two bonus tracks (including the "20 Years Anniversary Song" with a running time of over 12 minutes!).

ANTHRAX's manager, Izvor Zivkovic of Split Media, has released the following statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET:
"As announced last week, thrash legends ANTHRAX regretfully cancelled the first three dates on the second leg of their European tour due to new vocalist Dan Nelson's unexpected illness. An additional seven European dates are also cancelled, those scheduled from July 22 to July 30.
"ANTHRAX is thrilled to announce that they will play the August 1 Sonisphere festival in Knebworth, England, with their good friend John Bush [ANTHRAX's singer from 1992 to 2005] joining them for a very special one-off performance.
"The members of ANTHRAX have confirmed the departure of vocalist Dan Nelson. In light of this development, ANTHRAX's slot on the U.S. SLIPKNOT dates set for August and September, has also been cancelled. ANTHRAX is already actively considering lead singer candidates, and looks forward to hitting the road before the end of the year."
ANTHRAX's new album, "Worship Music", will be released in Europe on October 23 via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD, which was mixed at a New Orleans studio by Dave Fortman (a former member of UGLY KID JOE who has also worked with artists such as MUDVAYNE, EVANESCENCE), is the band's first studio effort in six years. |

Former HELLOWEEN Singer Collaborating With AMANDA SOMERVILLE, PRIMAL FEAR Members
Former HELLOWEEN vocalist Michael Kiske is collaborating with American singer Amanda Somerville on a brand new melodic hard rock/metal project for Frontiers Records. Mat Sinner (PRIMAL FEAR, SINNER) and Magnus Karlsson (PLACE VENDOME, PRIMAL FEAR) are handling most of the songwriting for the CD, which is tentatively due in early 2010.
Commented Kiske: "This is another idea by Serafino (Frontiers owner). I did a duet with a female singer on 'Breathing Water' by INDIGO DYING. It was so nice that he offered me a chance to make an album of all duet songs with a famous female singer."
Sinner added: "We're working hard on the songwriting for the first [Kiske/Somerville] album. It's a pleasure to write and produce Michael's next album, and with Amanda as the co-singer, it's something very special. I wrote songs with Magnus and Jimmy Kresic for the album, and we're really excited about the songs. Eight tracks are pre-produced now and we need another two songs before we will start the real recordings. AFTER FOREVER mainman Sander Gommans plans to join us and he's working on new songs with Amanda at the moment! Look out for a melodic metal masterpiece in early 2010!" |

SLAYER guitarist Kerry King has told U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine that he has heard through the grapevine that METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich is plotting a tour that would include METALLICA, MEGADETH, SLAYER and ANTHRAX.
Should this tour materialize, this would be the first time that the so-called "Big Four" of thrash have toured together as part of the same bill. MEGADETH, SLAYER and ANTHRAX were joined by opening act ALICE IN CHAINS for the U.S. Clash Of The Titans tour in 1991, while METALLICA and MEGADETH last shared a U.K. stage at Milton Keynes Bowl in 1993.
In an interview conducted yesterday (Wednesday, September 2) in London, Metal Hammer asked Kerry if there had been a temptation to bring the co-headline tour that SLAYER are about to embark on with MEGADETH in Australia and Canada to U.K. shores.
"I think it would be cool but I knew we had this planned before all of this MEGADETH stuff started happening," said King. "They're going to Australia with us, they're going to Canada again with us. I think it would be cool for the European fans to bring that over here because, shit, we didn't even consider playing with those guys since 1990."
So could it be possible that we could get a tour that includes the "Big Four?"
"I've heard people referencing Lars," said King. "I don't know Lars that well and I haven't heard it from Lars, but apparently he's talking to somebody about it. Maybe us, METALLICA, MEGADETH (and), I think he even threw in ANTHRAX and I said in this day and age, I know we had that time together, but how do you leave out MACHINE HEAD? There's better options than ANTHRAX and that's nothing against ANTHRAX, but they've just been in pieces for quite some time and that doesn't make as much sense to me."
